Readings by the judges of this year’s Fingal Poetry Competition, Jessica Traynor, and An Fiach Dubh: The Irish Language Poetry Competition, Paddy Bushe, followed by the unveiling of the winning poems of the 2023 Fingal Poetry Prize and An Fiach Dubh.

Jessica Traynor
Jessica Traynor is a poet, essayist, librettist, and poetry editor at Banshee.
Her debut collection, Liffey Swim (Dedalus Press, 2014), was shortlisted for the Strong/Shine Award. The Quick (Dedalus Press, 2018) was an Irish Times book of the year. Pit Lullabies (Bloodaxe, 2022) is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation.
Awards include the Ireland Chair of Poetry Prize, the Listowel Poetry Prize, and Hennessy New Writer of the Year, and in 2023, the Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Award for poetry.
Operas include Paper Boat (Music for Galway/ Irish National Opera, 2022), and Ghost Apples (20 Shots of Opera, INO, 2021).
She is a Creative Fellow of UCD, and 2023 Arts Council Writer in Residence in Galway University. She is a judge for the 2023 Forward Prizes and a poetry critic for The Irish Times.


Paddy Bushe
Tá breis is dosaen bailiúchán filíochta, idir Ghaeilge agus Béarla, foilsithe ag Paddy Bushe. Is aistritheoir agus eagarthóir filíochta é freisin. Le déanaí, bhain sé amach céim dochtúireachta sa scríbhneoireacht chruthaitheach (UCC) as ucht staidéar pearsanta ar litríocht agus taobh tíre Uíbh Ráthaigh, áit a bhfuil cónaí air le leathchéad bliain. Is ball de Aosdána é.
Paddy Bushe has more than a dozen collections of poetry to his name, between his volumes in Irish and those in English. He is a translator and editor of poetry. Recently, he was awarded a doctorate by UCC in creative writing for his personal study of the literature and countryside of the Iveragh Peninsula, where he has lived for half a century. He is a member of Aosdána.


Oscar Churcher & Diarmuid Slattery
Diarmuid and Oscar have been playing music together for the last 3 years. Diarmuid plays the guitar and Oscar plays the cello. Diarmuid has released music that is available on streaming platforms such as Spotify. They enjoy collaborating with each other and often work on projects together.
