Tá sé an-thábhachtach dúinn agus mar rún againn go mbeadh Gaeilge ann don bpobal Gaelach agus don bpobal go ginearálta le linn ár bhféile filíochta, Féile Filíochta Fhine Gall.
Beidh ócáidí as Gaeilge á rith againn do leanaí, don óige agus don bpobal trína chéile agus ba bhreá linn an focal Gaeilge labhartha bheith le cloisint sa timpeallacht. Beidh eilimintí as Gaeilge amháin agus eilimintí dhá-theangacha ar an gclár.
Faireann an dhá-theangachas fáilte roimh pobal níos leithne bheith páirteach sna hócáidí agus tugann sé spreagadh agus slí isteach ar an teanga do dhaoine nua i gcónaí. Beidh léamha filíochta, lá don gclann, mic-oscailte, siúlóid filíochta agus obair le Laureate na nÓg, Áine Ní Ghlinn againn i mbliana.
Dóibh siúd atá líofa nó leibhéal maith de Ghaeilge acu cheana, beidh ceardlann filíochta agus comórtas filíochta ann, chomh maith le togha is rogha de na filí Gaelacha ag léamh dúinn. Beidh dánta as Gaeilge foilsithe i bhfuinneoga na siopaí i mbaile na Sceirí le linn na féile leis. Beidh an fhilíocht mílsithe ag ceol agus amhránaíocht, agus a mhalairt chomh maith, d’fhonn an Gaeilge a stáitsíodh in atmasféar taitneamhach.
It is important to us that the Irish-language and the Irish-speaking community become an integral part of Fingal Poetry Festival. We will ensure a welcome for both the Gaelic speaker and for those with a curiosity about the language and its literature, by creating and including both Irish-language events and bilingual Irish-English events throughout our festival.
In using bilingual elements we invite a wider community to share in and savour the richness of the Gaelic tongue without feeling the need to be fluent. We would like to encourage the spoken Irish word as part of our ambience, to be heard at poetry readings, at events for young adults, family events and children’s events. Already programmed for this year, we have a visit from Áine Ní Ghlinn, the current, bilingual, Laureate na nÓg. We also have a poetry walk scheduled and a curated open-mic at the family day, both of which will welcome and include Irish-language poetry.
Those already fluent in Irish should thoroughly enjoy the readings from some of the best of our Gaelic poets and feel welcome to try our Irish poetry workshop and our Irish poetry competition. A selection of poetry as Gaeilge will be displayed in shop windows throughout Skerries town during the festival. Irish music and song will also contribute to the welcoming atmosphere where possible.
