Tá sé an-thábhachtach dúinn, agus mar rún againn, go mbeadh Gaeilge ann do phobal ár bhféile agus mar chuid dár bhféile, gach bliain.
Ba bhreá linn an focal Gaeilge labhartha bheith le cloisint sa timpeallacht le linn Fhéile Filíochta Fhine Gall. Bíonn ocáidí as Gaeilge á rith againn d’fhilí, do leanaí, do dhaoine óga, do dhaoine le suim acu sa teanga agus don bpobal trína chéile. Bíonn idir eilimintí as Gaeilge amháin agus eilimintí dhá-theangach againn ar ár gclár. Éiríonn linn togha is rogha d’fhilí Gaelacha a tharraingt chun léamh linn.
Bíonn léamha filíochta againn, deiseanna comhrá agus craic, ócáidí le hamhráin agus ceol Gaelach, ócáidí do leanaí, don gclann, do dhaoine gach aois agus gach cúlra. Bíonn maidhc-oscailte againn d’fhilí agus d’fhilí óga. Rithimid comórtas filíochta Gaeilge (An Fiach Dubh), ceardlanna filíochta Gaeilge, siúlóidí filíochta – ar a bhíonn dánta agus amhráin as Gaeilge agus as Béarla le cloisint.
Faireann an dhá-theangachas fáilte roimh pobal níos leithne freastal ar ócáidí na féile agus bheith páirteach iontu. Tugann sé spreagadh agus slí isteach ar an teanga do dhaoine nua i gcónaí, chomh maith le bheith tarraingteach do dhaoine a bhfuil an teanga ar a dtoil acu. I bhfuinneoga na siopaí sna Sceirí, bíonn dánta ar thaispeáint le linn na Féile, idir dhánta as Gaeilge, dhánta as Béarla agus dhánta as teangeacha eile in úsáid sa cheantar. D’fhonn an fhilíocht a stáitsíodh in aitmeasféar taitneamhach, tá nós againn an fhilíocht a mhilsiú le ceol agus amhránaíocht. Is minic a chloistear ceol traidisiúnta ag an bhféile agus uaireanta amhránaíocht ar an sean-nós. Anuas ar sin ar fad, bíonn ateangaireacht i dteanga iontach fisiúil na mbodhar le feiscint ag cuid mhaith dár n-ócáidí filíochta agus ceol.
It is important to us that the Irish language and the Irish speaking community feel welcome as an integral part of Fingal Poetry Festival. We ensure a welcome for both the Gaelic speaker and for those with a curiosity about the language and its literature, by creating and including both Irish language events and bilingual Irish-English events throughout our festival.
In using bilingual elements we invite a wider community to share in and savour the richness of the Gaelic tongue without feeling the need to be fluent. We like to encourage the spoken Irish word as part of our ambience, to be heard in and around our poetry events. We manage to attract the best of Irish language poets to read with us. Occasions for craic and comhrá have been established as an important part of our programme and these welcome Irish speakers of every level. We love, also, to sweeten our events with song and music, which is often of traditional style and we are sometimes treated to sean-nós singing. Irish Sign Language interpreters often participate at our events performed as Gaeilge, giving a wonderful visual aspect to the music of the poetry. Displays of poetry in shop windows also enhance the environs of our festival, as the shop-keepers of Skerries proudly mount poems in their shop windows each year.
Fingal Poetry Festival caters for all age groups and attempts to bring an Irish language element to each one. We run poetry workshops, including among them workshops in schools. Opportunities to read at the festival include opportunities for the passing poet or anyone with a poem in the pocket.
Our bilingual lunchtime poetry event plus our bilingual poetry walk allow some open-mic
opportunies. For younger people the chance to participate at the open-mic at the bilingual family event is offered.
