May Day Poetry Day

Poetry Day Ireland 2025 takes place today, Thursday, 1 May, under the theme “May Day”, celebrating renewal, hope, and community. We invite everyone to join in the festivities, discover the selected poems, and experience the joy of poetry in public spaces. The Poetry Ireland website has a full list of live events. Why not squeeze a bit of poetry into your day?!

We at Fingal Poetry Festival are delighted to announce that our Artistic Director, Enda Coyle-Greene, has been selected as one of the twelve featured poets for Poetry Day Ireland 2025. Her poem, Tea Break with Tin Mug, will be displayed across the Irish Rail network, including DART services, and in libraries nationwide—bringing poetry into the everyday journeys of thousands.

You can also find it, along with the other 11 selected poems, on the Poetry Ireland Poetry Day page. They write: “Each of the selected poems responds to this year’s theme May Day: as the midpoint between the spring and autumn equinox, May Day is deeply rooted in ancient traditions, including the fire festival of Bealtaine, which celebrates renewal, hope, and abundance. May Day is also recognised globally as International Workers’ Day, a time for reflection on solidarity, unity, and collective strength.

Enda’s leadership at Fingal Poetry Festival has been, and continues to be, instrumental in shaping its spirit and direction, with her deep connections in the poetry world helping to bring remarkable voices to Fingal. This recognition by Poetry Ireland highlights her exceptional talent and the resonance of her work with audiences across the country. The image below shows her at our 2024 festival.

Thank you for your interest in poetry! We’ll be back in September 2026—Fingal Poetry Festival is now biennial.
